In November 2010 the Institute for Government published its System Error report, on failings in Government IT. The report made two key recommendations: that Government should move to a standard technology platform to enable economies of scale and reduce procurement costs; and that projects should be managed using Agile approaches.
The report was enthusiastically received and its recommendations incorporated into the Government IT Strategy for 2011, stating that all departments should seek to “pilot 4 Agile projects in 2011”. Additionally, the recommendations were also embraced within local government and SOCITM is now running an Agile Pathfinder Programme to pilot 6 Agile projects in 2011.
IndigoBlue welcomes this change. We believe that it can and will be a successful change and will offer significant benefits in times of austerity. We were instrumental in the development, publication and communication of the System Error report and are supporting the Agile Pathfinder Programme.
